About Hydrogen
GREEN HYDROGEN 101
Green Hydrogen is an energy carrier produced simply with water & clean electricity. The molecule can be used as a feedstock, standalone energy source, or used to create more complex and energy-dense molecules.
HYDROGEN PROPERTIES AND SAFETY
Hydrogen Properties
- Non-toxic
- Odorless
- Tasteless
- Colorless
- Non-corrosive
-
Lightest gas
• Rises and disperses quickly in air - Low energy content by volume, but high by weight
- No CO2, particulate, or sulfur emissions, when used as an alternative to fossil fuel combustion
Safety Overview
- Material selection and design considerations to prevent leaks
- Multiple safety monitoring mechanisms active 24/7 for leak detection
- Setback ~1/4 mile from nearest residence
- Perimeter fencing and gated access
-
Risk Management Plan and Emergency Response Plan based on detailed design for implementation through the life of the project
• Including: Hazardous Operations Analysis (HAZOP) & OSHA Process Safety Management -
Collaboration with local emergency response services
• Including: A physical walkthrough of the plant & on-site safety/response training - Comply with industry best practice, codes, and standards
HYDROGEN IN THE COMMUNITY
No – Hydrogen itself is an odorless, non-toxic gas. The only byproduct of electrolysis which will be released into the air is oxygen
No – The loudest part of the project is during construction. During operations, the facility will produce noise similar to other existing and nearby industrial facilities.
No – The project uses about the same amount of water as a large dairy operation. We only use as much water as we need. We dispose our non-nonhazardous wastewater into a deep injection well approved by a rigorous EPA process.
Yes – The project will comply with strict codes and standards during both the construction and operational phase to ensure proper operation and minimize risk.
